About The Position

As the Group Exercise Director, you’ll lead a high-energy, member-facing environment overseeing group exercise (land and aquatic) and the wellness floor. This role requires a balance of people leadership, operational oversight, and hands-on engagement to ensure a safe, inclusive, and motivating experience for all. You’ll be visible, active, and adaptable—supporting staff, engaging members, and stepping in where needed to keep operations running smoothly. The organization is launching one of the largest fitness floors in the region and three new group exercise studios this fall and is the fastest-growing Y association in the country.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 years of fitness or wellness leadership experience
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to engage diverse populations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow group exercise programs (studio and aquatic)
  • Oversee wellness floor operations, safety, and member engagement
  • Recruit, hire, schedule, and develop instructors and wellness staff
  • Evaluate performance and provide ongoing coaching
  • Ensure staff certifications remain current
  • Monitor participation, satisfaction, and program effectiveness
  • Maintain equipment and program spaces
  • Support marketing, events, and fundraising initiatives
  • Manage department budget and meet financial goals
