About The Position

At the Parkpoint Clubs, we are committed to the health and well-being of mind, body, and spirit. Through innovative fitness and lifestyle programs, our friendly, professional staff will inspire and support you in your commitment to enhancing the quality of your life. This is a part-time, non-exempt position for assigned scheduled classes, requiring a minimum of one regular class per week. The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality group exercise classes that are safe, fun, and effective, focusing on member success. Instructors represent Parkpoint and must embody the company's Mission and Core Values of Excellence, Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Community and Health and Well Being.

Requirements

  • Must have reliable transportation to work.
  • Hold a current certification with a nationally recognized exercise association or a certification in a specific discipline that meets industry standards.
  • For specialty classes such as Pilates, yoga, NIA, kickboxing, cycling, Qigong, etc. appropriate training and current certifications are required.
  • Maintain certification through attendance in certified continuing education workshops and seminars.
  • Complete the California Anti-Harassment Training with 90 days of hire.
  • CPR /AED previous certification at hire or within 90 days of hire.
  • Have teaching experience in group exercise or related field.
  • Possess strong leadership skills.
  • Demonstrate expertise in cueing, vocal quality and correctional techniques.
  • Be knowledgeable in proper body mechanics, paying special attention to body alignment, spine and joints.
  • Be physically able to perform all exercises necessary to instruct classes effectively using proper form and alignment.
  • Excellent communication skills: English speaking, writing and reading required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and instruct assigned classes in a safe, fun, and effective manner in accordance with industry and applicable certification standards as well as class guidelines as set by the Group Exercise Director.
  • Update class content regularly and present using current industry information.
  • Be dependable and prompt; subbing out classes must be kept to a minimum and approved by the Group Exercise Director.
  • Address the components of fitness (cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition) efficiently and effectively as applicable to the class.
  • Present yourself professionally at all times, acting as an educator, coach, and motivator.
  • Use clear communication and cueing skills, giving group and individual corrections positively and supportively.
  • Welcome new students, establish rapport, and help integrate them into the class, program, and club.
  • Pay attention to individual instruction, teaching proper body alignment, form, and aerobic awareness.
  • Demonstrate excellent technical execution of all exercises.
  • Provide a non-competitive social atmosphere and reinforce the motivational aspect of group classes.
  • Provide a variety of regularly changing class music appropriate for the class in style, tempo, and language.
  • Offer modifications for all levels of fitness, demonstrating the safest and most moderate level first.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and behavior, including appropriate dress, language, and nonverbal communications.
  • Operate exercise and sound equipment, facility lighting, and AC responsibly.
  • Demonstrate proper care of all exercise and facility equipment and instruct students in their proper use.
  • Act as a representative of the Parkpoint Club in all class and member interactions.
  • Promote and/or advertise outside programs (business or personal) is strictly prohibited.
  • Act as a liaison between members and managers regarding club operations and policies.
  • Problem-solve proactively with members to reach solutions.
  • Follow up on all member concerns, suggestions, problems, and issues by informing management.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and behavior towards members and staff.
  • Be friendly, helpful, and outgoing, creating a warm, caring, and enjoyable atmosphere.
  • Attend all group exercise staff meetings and Club all staff meetings as required.
  • Be a team player and participate in club and staff activities.
  • Be a positive support to fellow instructors and their classes.
  • Create and ensure a non-competitive team environment.
  • Classes are regularly evaluated based on member participation and overall program demand; continued placement is not guaranteed and may be subject to change.
  • Classes with consistently low attendance or those that no longer align with the club’s programming needs may be modified, rescheduled, or removed at the club’s discretion.

  • Pre and post-class administrative time (set up, clean up, member interactions, record keeping) compensated at the hourly minimum wage rate (1-15 minutes per class, additional time pre-approved).
