About The Position

As the Group Director of Data Engineering for Global Data Foundations at Walmart Global Tech, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our data and analytics capabilities. Leading a talented and diverse team of data engineers distributed across the globe, you will spearhead the development and maintenance of cutting-edge data products that fuel our business growth and customer-centric initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree or closely related discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience in building data integration and platform solutions involving Big Data technologies.
  • A strong experience in driving data/engineering operations for end user applications.
  • A strong understanding of data platforms, data and reporting engines, data modelling and warehousing, and data transformations and pipelines for supporting real time and batch-oriented events processing.
  • Experience in leading large/medium distributed platform teams.
  • Experience with relational databases (Oracle / My SQL), non-relational databases (Cassandra, HBase) and Big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark
  • Experience in building end-to-end data products (DaaS) using latest technologies and architecture (like microservices architecture). This included good knowledge of DevOps.
  • Experience with distributed real time / micro batch computation systems such as Spark
  • Experience with leading data commercialization initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 8 years' experience in data engineering, solution architecture, business intelligence, business analytics or related field.
  • 10 years' experience in data engineering, solution architecture, business intelligence, business analytics or related field.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science and 6 years' experience in data engineering, solution architecture, business intelligence, business analytics or related field.
  • 4 years' supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Driving the Data engineering charter, bring best practices, solve key enterprise problems for multiple markets
  • Coordinate across retail value chain functional teams of data scientists, analysts, product managers, engineers, and business operators on value realization initiatives.
  • Develop and leverage a consistent framework to identify and prioritize uses cases based on business value.
  • Play a key role to solve complex data problems (business & operational), pivotal to Walmart's business and drive actionable insights.
  • Demonstrate incremental solution approach with agile and flexible ability to overcome practical problems.
  • Lead and collaborate with the team to assess customer needs and translate the business problem into an analytical problem.
  • Establish platform best practices and drive the use of state of art techniques.
  • Manage development and support of data commercialization platform that caters to needs of real time events and batch data processing
  • Manage end to end development of data products that include traditional RDBMS and big data platforms
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of data engineers.
  • Drive continuous improvement by researching industry best practices and incorporating it to our company
  • Drive the execution of multiple business plans for your own project team and deliverables.
  • Develops and leverages internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals by sponsoring and leading key community outreach and involvement initiatives engaging key stakeholders in the development execution and evaluation of appropriate business plans and initiatives and supporting associate efforts in these areas
  • Implement data quality frameworks and ensure compliance with data governance policies.
  • Engage with leadership globally in setting up priorities for the team.
  • Create a collaborative environment across geography for delivering best services to the customers around the globe.
