Groundsworker- District Wide-2 positions, 2 shifts
About The Position
This position involves performing a variety of grounds maintenance tasks to ensure the upkeep of district facilities. Responsibilities include transporting items, marking athletic fields, operating large lawn mowing equipment, snow removal, and general landscaping. The role requires adherence to the District's Mission and Belief statements and performing other related manual tasks as directed. The work is performed under the supervision of the Grounds Crew Chief, Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, or their assistant, with opportunities for independent work on routine tasks.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or vocational school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1) year of experience in site maintenance work; OR Six (6) years of experience in site maintenance or grounds maintenance work; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience
- Possession of a valid Class 3 New York State driver's license at the time of appointment
- May be required to apply for a pesticide applicator's license at the time of appointment
- Good knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of general grounds maintenance
- Working knowledge of the methods used in propagating, planting, cultivating, pruning and general care of plants, flowers, shrubs and lawns
- Working knowledge of the growth characteristics of flowers, plants and bulbs
- Good knowledge of methods, equipment and materials used in snow plowing and maintenance of roadways, paths, entrances and exits to buildings

Nice To Haves
- 5 years of athletic field layout and maintainance
- 5 years of snow plowing experience
- 5 years of landscaping experience
- CDL Class B Driver's License with air brake endorsement and clean driving record
Responsibilities
- Transports various items both within and outside of the district
- Lays out and marks athletic fields
- Operates large lawn mowing equipment
- Snow removal from parking lots and sidewalks
- Performs landscaping tasks
- Operates ground equipment and trucks
- Performs a variety of grounds maintenance work, cutting grass and weeds, raking leaves
- Plants, transplants, cultivates, prunes, sprays, and trims shrubs, bushes and trees
- Assists in the maintenance and repair of all concrete and blacktop surfaces, including sidewalks, parking lots, roads, athletic fields and parks
- Operates snow removal equipment and removes snow, salts and sands driveways, sidewalks
- Performs other related manual tasks during the winter
- Performs routine tasks, handling of supplies, equipment, removal of rubbish, weeds grass and other debris
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
