About The Position

At Moon Valley Nurseries, the Groundsman - Yard Utility supports nursery operations and customer service through equipment maintenance, yard organization, and customer assistance. The role requires flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to contribute to the success of the retail yard. The employee helps maintain a clean, orderly, and attractive nursery yard, including communicating plant material waste, rearranging plants, trees, and merchandise, and cleaning the area. The position also involves routine maintenance and repair of nursery equipment, helping customers and colleagues load and unload products into vehicles, and following safety protocols. The employee must be available to work any day of the week. The role is active and involves manual labor and extended outdoor work in potentially extreme conditions, including rain, heat, sun, and wind. Requirements

Ability to perform manual labor.
Ability to follow specific instructions and safety protocols.
Demonstrated availability to work any day of the week.
Ability to communicate verbally with colleagues, managers, and vendors.
Ability to perform active work involving standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
Ability to frequently reach, pull, lift, and/or move items weighing up to and over 75 pounds.
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in potentially extreme conditions, including rain, heat, sun, and wind.
Subject to motor vehicle record and criminal background checks in accordance with applicable laws.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience operating power tools, hand tools, and other equipment.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Organize and maintain the nursery yard so it remains clean, orderly, and attractive.
Communicate plant material waste, rearrange plants, trees, and other merchandise, and clean and tidy the yard.
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on nursery equipment, including vehicles, forklifts, and hand tools.
Help load and unload plants, trees, and other nursery products into cars, trucks, trailers, vans, and other vehicles.
Provide friendly, helpful customer service and assist customers and colleagues.
Follow safety protocols, including safe lifting, equipment operation, merchandise handling, and maintaining a safe environment.
Perform manual work supporting nursery maintenance, storage, and customer order fulfillment.
Transport and mix topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss, and other materials to condition soil using hand tools.
Dig, rake, and sift soil to fill planting pots and boxes.
Be available to work any day of the week.
Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
