About The Position

The Groundskeeping Spray Technician Team Lead assists with the supervision and training of Groundskeeping Spray Technicians and other Grounds employees. This role involves applying herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers in various locations such as roadsides, ditches, easements, and ornamental plants. The position also includes managing inventory, distribution, storage, and purchasing of these chemicals. Responsibilities extend to mixing herbicides and chemicals for spraying, calibrating computer equipment, and calculating desired percentages for mixtures. The Team Lead plans and executes work, resolving issues in accordance with policies and laws, and drives vehicles between sites. Shifts may exceed 8 hours daily depending on grounds conditions and campus event schedules, and may require overtime, sometimes on short notice. Work may also be performed at various locations, including events like football games.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Four (4) years of herbicide, landscaping, or groundskeeping experience.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire.
  • Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies.
  • Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry groundskeeping equipment for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions and temperatures.

Nice To Haves

  • Alabama Ornamental and Turf Pesticide Applicator certification or ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the supervision and training of Groundskeeping Spray Technicians and other Grounds employees.

  • Plans and carries out work, resolving any problems in accordance with instructions, policies, accepted practices, and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Drives vehicles from site to site.
  • Performs work at various locations, including events such as football games.
  • Requires overtime, sometimes on short notice.
