The Groundskeeper reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. The Groundskeeper is responsible for all outdoor maintenance to the grounds and buildings. This position requires an individual with general grounds keeping knowledge. The Groundskeeper works with limited supervision from maintenance supervisor therefore the ability to work independently, safely and efficiently is required. The Groundskeeper must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to operate power equipment and must be willing and able to work outdoors all year round. This employee must know how to operate all machinery associated with groundskeeping (i.e., power mower, chain saw, power hedge trimmers and power leaf removal equipment, etc.). They must also be able to maintain and make minor repairs to the equipment. The employee must be able to stand, crouch, and climb to use ladders and perform various types of manual labor. Dependability and attention to detail are required characteristics. Also, the Groundskeeper must be willing to assist others in the Maintenance Team and/or do the functions they are capable of when needed. The Groundskeeper also provides relief for the Facilities Janitor in their absence. This work environment involves occasionally handling hazardous chemical, therefore the ability to utilize a personal respirator is required. The physical demands of this position involve standing for extended periods, working in extreme heat during the summer months and regularly lifting items weighing between 40 - 50 lbs (unassisted).
