About The Position

Under supervision of the Lead Groundskeeper, the Groundskeeper is responsible for gardening and general grounds maintenance work. This role requires the ability to work normal/scheduled working hours, including holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. The employee must also participate in emergencies and community disasters as directed, recognizing their affirmative duty to report perceived misconduct. The role demands working well under pressure, meeting deadlines, and maintaining cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages, if required.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Must maintain a valid CA driver's license and current DMV report, with results within acceptable standards as per SVMC policy.
Must enroll in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
Must maintain at least state required limits of liability insurance/evidence of financial responsibility on own vehicles.

Responsibilities

Plants, cultivates, waters and sprays ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, trees and flowers, and propagates cuttings.
Plants and cares for lawns.
Rakes leaves, hoes weeds, and performs general grounds maintenance work.
Prepares and treats soils for planting, spades and fertilizes flowerbeds and sets out plants.
Keeps grounds clean and orderly.
Maintains hoses, tools, supplies, and equipment in proper condition and repair.
Trims trees, hedges, and shrubs and erects tree supports.
Does general laboring tasks related to grounds and garden maintenance work.
Documentation reflects compliance with established Hospital policies and procedures.
Must be able to read and understand Chemical Material Safety Data Sheets.
Must possess a valid California driver's license.
Be in attendance on site and arrive to work on time.
