About The Position

Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church and School is looking for a Groundskeeper. There is flexibility as to whether this is a full-time or part-time position. The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of the grounds at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church and School. This individual helps ensure that outdoor spaces reflect the welcoming and reverent spirit of our Catholic mission, supporting a safe and beautiful environment for worship, learning, and fellowship. Actions must be consistent with culture and core values of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church: Fundamentally Relational, Mission Driven, Innovative Excellence, Radical Hospitality. We are looking for an energetic and self-motivated Groundskeeper to keep our campus grounds functionally and aesthetically sound. The Groundskeeper will maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, and fields. The Groundskeeper will employ insecticides, chemical sprays, fertilizers and mulches to optimize the condition of greenery. This individual will keep grounds free from trash, litter, debris, weeds, plant diseases and harmful insects as well as maintain equipment and supplies, ordering as needed. To be successful in this role, the Groundskeeper must ensure grounds are pleasant-both visually and operatively-at all times, while maintaining needed equipment. Top candidates are hard-working, meticulous, self-motivated, and patient. The position reports to the Pastor and Principal, collaborates with the pastoral and administrative staff, and operates under the daily supervision of the Director of Facilities and Grounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Uphold Catholic values in demeanor, behavior, and work ethic.
  • Experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or facility maintenance preferred.
  • Knowledge of lawn care equipment, irrigation systems, and outdoor safety protocols.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and prioritize tasks.
  • Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs, standing for long periods, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Must pass background check and meet archdiocesan Safe Environment requirements.
  • As a visible member of the church and school community, the Groundskeeper plays a supportive role in the Catholic mission of hospitality, respect, and service.
  • Candidates should demonstrate a respect for the teachings of the Catholic Church and a willingness to serve the broader parish and school family with professionalism and care.

  • Experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or facility maintenance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain lawns, flower beds, trees, and shrubbery (mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, watering, fertilizing).
  • Remove debris, leaves, trash, and other litter from grounds, walkways, and parking lots.
  • Perform seasonal maintenance such as leaf removal, tree trimming, and seasonal planting.
  • Maintain playgrounds and sports fields.
  • Maintain irrigation systems and hoses; report malfunctions.
  • Perform other duties such as powerwashing, drainage maintenance, and mulching.
  • Inspect and maintain outdoor signage, fencing, benches, lighting, and statuary.
  • Set up and take down outdoor spaces for events.
  • Report damages or needed repairs to the Facilities Manager.
  • Ensure all outdoor areas are safe and accessible.
  • Maintain sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas to prevent hazards.
  • Assist with minor outdoor repairs and maintenance.
  • Use tools and equipment responsibly and maintain in good working condition.
  • Assist with indoor maintenance tasks as needed, particularly during inclement weather.
  • Assist in janitorial and cleaning tasks as needed.
  • Setting up and tearing down tables and chairs for services, meetings, and special events.
  • Collaborate with school and church staff for event support or emergency needs.
