About The Position

The Groundskeeper's role is to maintain and care for hospital properties and to operate vehicles and equipment in a safe and professional manner. This is a Per Diem Position located at NewYork-Presbyterian / Westchester Behavioral Health. All roles require on-site presence, and employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP. NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Clean and valid driver’s license
• Two years commercial/professional gardening and snow removal experience

Responsibilities

• Prepares seeding or transplanting beds outdoors or in the greenhouse.
• Plants seeds and bulbs, tree seedlings and shrubbery to produce an attractive appearance.
• Digs up and stores bulbs and roots to prevent from freezing as necessary.
• Scatters grass seed or sods areas of lawn as needed.
• Removes dead or diseased trees; collects leaves and debris; weeds and thins flower beds; prunes trees and trims hedges; mows lawn and works lawn and flower beds; may trap small rodents.
• May move and set up outdoor furniture, grills, waste receptacles and related items for outdoor functions.
• May erect scaffolding and move building materials.
• Collects and brings refuse to City disposal area.
• Cleans and polices dumpsters and surrounding area.
• Operates hospital vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to front end loaders, tractors, snow plows, lawn mowers, in a safe and professional manner.
• Cleans and polices swimming pool daily and adds chemicals to pool water as needed when pool is in operation.
• Performs minor repairs on a variety of small equipment, including but not limited to lawn mowers, sprinklers, etc.
• Removes snow from sidewalks, steps, roads, parking lots and driveways, and spreads salt and sand.
• Distributes sand boxes, erects snow fencing and removes same as necessary.
