About The Position

The Felician Sisters of North America is actively hiring a full-time Groundskeeper/Maintenance Assistant at the Holy Name of Mary Convent in Mississauga, Ontario. This role supports an eldercare home for Sisters and involves maintaining outdoor spaces, performing general maintenance and repairs, and cultivating plants. The position requires compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to serving the elderly Sisters with dignity and respect, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment that supports their quality of life. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with potential for on-call responsibilities.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent required.
One (1) to three (3) years’ general maintenance experience required.
Minimum of two years of experience in garden work.
Must possess a valid class G driver’s license.
Knowledge of building construction or related trades.
Demonstrate compassion, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to serving elderly Sisters.
Attentive to the needs and requests of residents, treating each person with dignity, respect, empathy, and patience.

Nice To Haves

Three (3) to Five (5) years of general maintenance experience preferred.
Knowledge and experience of working in an orchard would be preferred.
Knows all aspects of horticultural maintenance, landscape design, knowledge of orchard work and maintenance, pruning of fruit trees, pruning plants, ornamental trees and bushes, soil and plant management, seasonal plantings, and assembly of plant materials.
Knowledge of IPM (integrated pest management).

Responsibilities

Maintain outdoor spaces including lawns, gardens, and orchards.
Perform snow removal using a snowplow truck and clearing entrances and parked cars.
Complete general maintenance and repairs on buildings and equipment.
Cultivate, manage, and care for plants, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and ornamental trees and shrubs.
Prune and trim trees and shrubs.
Manage waste removal, including compost materials.
Assist in decision-making regarding plant and tree replacement and rotation.
Purchase and assemble annual plants.
Plan for soil care, compost additions, and mulching.
Manage pest control as needed.
Prune orchard trees, pick and sort fruit, and maintain crates for apples.
Operate machinery and equipment safely.
Transport machinery and vehicles for maintenance.
Ensure safe handling and storage of tools, cleaning supplies, and chemicals.
Perform pool maintenance as required.
Perform minor repairs on buildings, such as painting or patching walls.
Fix minor plumbing or electrical issues.
Maintain and repair equipment like tools and machinery.
Ensure equipment is safe and in good working order.
Clean and maintain kitchen grease traps, stove hood, fans, and water tanks.
Clean windows and eavestroughs.
Clean floors and carpets, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, and waxing.
Lubricate and maintain machinery and equipment.
Ensure all light fixtures are operational and change light bulbs.
Observe appearance and condition of property and equipment, reporting safety hazards.
Assist in overall security efforts on the property.
Drive trucks or tractors as required for supplies, grounds maintenance, and transport.
