About The Position

Full-time positions at Clovis Community College are not remote positions and require a physical presence on campus to fulfill duties and college-related responsibilities. Under general supervision, supervise the performance of grounds maintenance functions and personnel including equipment repair and landscaping maintenance.

Requirements

  • Excellent time management and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible to accommodate changes in priorities.
  • Computer literacy and willingness to learn computer skills.
  • Position requires frequent to continuous standing, kneeling, climbing, and moving in the shop and the campus.
  • Working around and with machinery having moving parts.
  • Exposure to extreme fluctuations in temperature and weather conditions.
  • Exposure to chemicals used in the control of pests and weed control.
  • Loud noises from equipment operation.
  • Frequently requires pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Occasional pushing and pulling of up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Six months of supervisory or leadership experience in grounds maintenance or construction landscaping.
  • Minimum one year experience in maintenance and repair of Rainbird, or similar, sprinkler systems.
  • Knowledge on mowing/ landscaping using industrial equipment.
  • Candidate must be able to pass a hands-on assessment.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma and two years’ experience in grounds maintenance or landscape construction is preferred.
  • One year of supervisory or leadership experience in grounds maintenance or construction landscaping.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and oversees groundskeeping operations by organizing tasks, guiding daily activities, and providing direction to staff while actively participating in moderately heavy manual work.
  • Work includes the care and maintenance of plants, shrubs, lawns, and the installation and maintenance of sprinkler systems.
  • Work is performed outdoors with exposure to hazardous equipment and weather.
  • Coordinates landscape areas.
  • Coordinates in the design and implementation of landscaping.
  • Utilizes proper safety equipment and techniques to prevent personal injury and property damage.
  • On call for emergency maintenance and after hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Mowing, edging, and trimming of grass area; collection of debris and weeds; planting beds; watering trees and shrubs; flowers and grass areas.
  • Train personnel in the proper use and handling of equipment and tractors.
  • Report hazards such as broken benches, etc.
  • Place barricades around hazard areas.
  • Repair and replace equipment, oil filters, blades, air filters and miscellaneous parts on lawn equipment and tractors.
  • Read landscaping and irrigation blueprints.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
