About The Position

Under the direction of the Landscaping Manager, the Groundskeeper II is responsible for performing advanced maintenance and landscape tasks for the Viejas property including assisting with irrigation and power washing. Operates vehicle and power equipment such as mowers, tractors, chain saws, rototillers, weed whips, trenchers, sod cutters, and backpack blowers to maintain the grounds of the casino and other surrounding properties. Maintains, repairs, and adjusts existing irrigations systems to include controls, wiring, piping, and other component of electrical, mechanical and computer control systems. Uses a variety of tools, both hand and powered, to accomplish tasks. Maintains established schedule as requested and provides feedback to improve schedule efficiency. Keeps tools and equipment in good repair. Reports irrigation problems on property that needs attention. Uses proper pruning techniques for trees, shrubs, and groundcovers. Participates in special projects in the Landscape Department including design, installation, and maintenance. Ensures that work area is clean, safe, secure, and well maintained. Establishes and maintains professional working relationship with internal and external guests. Understands proper planting techniques for trees, shrubs, and flowers. Uses proper landscape maintenance practices, for ornamental resort landscapes. Checks and reports in area of responsibility proper moisture levels of plant material. Uses correct fertilizer, pesticide, or fungicide for different plant materials. Hauls and spreads topsoil, stone, mulch, and other landscape materials. Performs routine maintenance tasks without supervisor. Makes correct repairs to trouble calls as soon as possible with tools and materials that are made available. Contacts supervisor promptly of any problems. Operates pressure washer machinery safely and effectively to clean a variety of surfaces such as buildings, concrete areas, and windows. Uses degreasers or removal chemical as label recommends when requested by supervision. Maintains grounds in a safe and aesthetically pleasing condition. Attends all scheduled team member meetings and trainings. Adheres to all hygiene and safety standards. Ensures that a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment is maintained. Maintains the knowledge of marketing promotions and events to be able to explain to guests. Adheres to all company and department policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines. Performs all related and compatible duties as assigned. Does not provide supervision to others.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License Required.
  • Clean Driving Record Required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to drive a manual transmission.
  • Knowledge and proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions.
  • Knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment, materials, and practices and procedures used in the irrigation trade.
  • Understands irrigation components and repairs.
  • Good verbal and interpersonal relations skills.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, and pruning saws.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate company and team members’ needs depending on projects, daily tasks, and emergency situations.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of proper gardening techniques.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule according to business needs, including graveyard shift, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months of related experience and/or training preferred
