About The Position

Xavier University is looking to hire a Groundskeeper for the Office of Physical Plant. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain a safe and beautiful campus according to Xavier standards. Includes but not limited to sports fields, landscaping, and mow crew assistance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required
• 1-3 years of relevant experience
• Valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

• Vocational or technical training preferred
• Pesticide license preferred
• Continuing education

Responsibilities

• Operates hand and power tools to cut, trim, edge grass, turf, and (maintain athletic fields by dragging, laying out, lining, and painting) applies chemicals, prunes trees and shrubs, trim hedges, mulches, removes snow, etc. All while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and following all established safety procedures.
• Applies top soil, grades surfaces; prepares seed beds, plants bulbs; trims hedges, shrubs, and trees; weeds flower beds, and removes trees and shrubs by lifting or moving heavy equipment or material un assisted up to 125 pounds. Lifts or moves heavier items by communicating with assistance.
• Picks up litter, trash, and removes trash and recycling from cans; keeps records of work performed, time and material used and similar maintenance data and reports the same. Also responsible for taking scrap metal recyclables to the recycling center.
• Services and repairs, cleans, and performs daily and preventative maintenance on grounds equipment and shop.
• Assists other departments in related activities (sets up and delivers equipment, furniture, supplies, and Christmas lights, etc.)
