About The Position

Under the direction of the Landscaping Manager, the Groundskeeper is responsible for performing routine maintenance and landscape tasks for Viejas property. This role involves operating various power equipment, reporting irrigation issues, using proper pruning and planting techniques, and performing landscape maintenance practices. The Groundskeeper will also be responsible for checking plant moisture levels, using correct fertilizers and pesticides, hauling landscape materials, and performing routine maintenance tasks independently. They will also make repairs to trouble calls and maintain grounds in a safe and aesthetically pleasing condition, adhering to all company and department policies.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License Required.
  • Clean Driving Record Required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, and pruning saws.
  • Knowledge of proper gardening techniques.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule according to business needs, including graveyard shift, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months of related experience and/or training preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operates vehicle and power equipment such as mowers, tractors, chain saws, rototillers, weed whips, trenchers, sod cutters, and backpack blowers to maintain the grounds of the casino and other surrounding properties.
  • Reports irrigation problems on property that needs attention.
  • Uses proper pruning techniques for trees, shrubs, and groundcovers.
  • Participates in special projects in the Landscape Department including design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Understands proper planting techniques for trees, shrubs, and flowers.
  • Uses proper landscape maintenance practices, for ornamental resort landscapes.
  • Checks and reports in area of responsibility proper moisture levels of plant material.
  • Uses correct fertilizer, pesticide, or fungicide for different plant materials.
  • Hauls and spreads topsoil, stone, mulch, and other landscape materials.
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks without supervisor.
  • Makes correct repairs to trouble calls as soon as possible with tools and materials that are made available.
  • Contacts supervisor promptly of any problems.
  • Maintains grounds in a safe and aesthetically pleasing condition.
  • Adheres to all company and department policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines.
  • Performs all related and compatible duties as assigned.
  • Does not provide supervision to other team members.
