About The Position

The Grounds Worker is responsible for the general maintenance, landscaping, and upkeep of the university’s outdoor spaces, including lawns, gardens, athletic fields, walkways, and parking areas. This role ensures that the campus remains safe, clean, and visually appealing for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Groundskeeper performs routine landscaping tasks, assists with seasonal maintenance, and supports special event preparations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Mow, trim, edge, and fertilize lawns and green spaces to maintain a well-manicured appearance.
  • Prune trees, shrubs, and plants to promote healthy growth and enhance campus aesthetics.
  • Remove weeds, debris, and litter from lawns, walkways, and parking areas.
  • Maintain flower beds, plant seasonal vegetation, and apply mulch as needed.
  • Operate and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of campus landscapes.
  • Monitor soil conditions and apply fertilizers or treatments to maintain healthy turf.
  • Identify and report irrigation system issues such as leaks, broken sprinklers, or drainage problems.
  • Operate grounds maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and hand tools.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on landscaping equipment to ensure proper functionality.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the Grounds Supervisor.
  • Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs, and entryways during winter months.
  • Apply sand or de-icing agents to prevent slips and falls in icy conditions.
  • Assist with storm clean-up, including removing fallen branches and clearing debris.
  • Ensure all walkways and outdoor areas remain safe and accessible throughout the year.
  • Set up and remove temporary structures, banners, and decorations for university events.
  • Assist with outdoor seating arrangements and logistical support for ceremonies, athletic events, and student activities.
  • Work collaboratively with campus staff to maintain outdoor spaces for various academic and recreational uses.
