The Grounds Utilities Plumber Assistant, under direction, participates in maintaining, repairing, and replacing minor and major piping of large diameter size on campus water systems, primarily systems pertaining to irrigation and landscape systems. This role involves assisting with the maintenance and repair of University Irrigation systems, constructing new water irrigation systems and infrastructure, and supporting other Irrigation technicians. The assistant will also help inspect backflows, valves, pumps, irrigation controllers, and other irrigation equipment. Additionally, the role may involve assisting with grounds operations such as mowing, cutting, weed eating, tree trimming, blowing, landscape, or haul-off, and supporting University Plumbers with water and sewer pipe repairs and interior restroom fixtures. The position requires reporting broken equipment, inventory needs, and water leaks to the Grounds Manager or Irrigation License Technician, and receiving training on irrigation and plumbing systems and equipment. This role also includes participation in skills development, on-call duties for evenings, weekends, and special events, and acting as a service responder during emergencies, weather, and catastrophic events.
