About The Position

The position of Spring Grove Grounds Technician is established to perform support and assistance to the Spring Grove Grounds Team. This role involves a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and preparation of cemetery grounds, including operating specialized equipment, preparing burial sites, assisting with horticultural tasks, and providing customer service in a sensitive industry. The technician will work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• No experience necessary, however experience in grounds maintenance, greens industry, or construction would be helpful.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• High attention to detail.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Displays a “Customer First” attitude.
• Ability to operate backhoe (excavation and backfilling).
• Understanding and knowledge of operating the soil hauler.
• Ability to prepare a burial site.
• Ability to operate pounding during backfilling.
• Comfortable working at multiple height levels on a lift.
• Ability to excavate inurnment and infant burials by hand.
• Ability to do the entombment and niche inurnment process.
• Understand and be able to read a lot diagram.
• Ability to engineer a burial space.
• Assist in leading services to funeral sites.
• Assist funeral director and family when arriving at the burial location.
• Ability to operate the vault trailer and install a vault.
• Ability to complete the installation of markers, monument foundations, and monuments.
• Assist with mulching, pruning, and planting.
• Sod installation and upkeep throughout the year.

Responsibilities

• Operate grounds equipment, including backhoe, soil hauler, tractor, and trailer.
• Prepare burial sites, including setting plywood boards, excavation, lining graves with grass and coco matting, and tamping.
• Assist with mowing and trimming of cemetery grounds.
• Excavate inurnment and infant burials by hand.
• Perform the entombment and niche inurnment process.
• Maintain equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Read and understand lot diagrams.
• Engineer burial spaces and provide third checks if needed.
• Assist in leading services to funeral sites.
• Assist funeral directors and families at burial locations.
• Operate the vault trailer and install vaults.
• Complete the installation of markers, monument foundations, and monuments.
• Assist with mulching, pruning, and planting.
• Perform sod installation and upkeep.
• Provide customer service, including verbal and written communication with employees and customers.
• Interface with employees and customers in-person.
• Operate grounds equipment.
• Perform general maintenance of grounds areas.
