About The Position

The Grounds Technician Solid Waste Part-time primarily works in solid waste to perform cart rollbacks at specified disposal times. This position also assists in maintaining the grounds of Town-owned property, rights-of-way, and other tasks as assigned. This is a year-round, non-exempt, part-time position that requires weekdays and weekends, with a maximum of 999 hours worked per year, with no benefits. The majority of work is performed Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of general maintenance techniques related to the area of assignment.
  • Skilled in driving a vehicle
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • FEMA IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 completion
  • Ability to represent the Town professionally and respectfully while interacting with a diverse set of individuals within the workplace and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide rollback service for solid waste containers along fixed routes.
  • Operates a Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV) along streets and rights-of-way safely and efficiently.
  • Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools to perform tasks.
  • Cleans project sites to include picking up trash, clearing debris, moving refuse to appropriate areas, and maintaining grounds.
  • Replenishes dog waste dispensers’ bags as needed at parks and public facilities.
  • Performs general/preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, vehicles, and shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety and reports faulty equipment.
  • Cleans and removes debris from parks, beach accesses, street rights-of-way, gutters, storm drains, catch basins, drainage ditches, sidewalks, and street construction sites by shoveling, raking, sweeping, and picking up debris.
  • May remove dead animals from right- of-way as necessary.
  • Stocks and maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Makes simple records of work activities.
  • Works irregular hours including weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
  • Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
