Grounds Systems Fluids Systems Design Engineer

Blue OriginSpace Coast, FL

About The Position

Application close date: Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. As a Fluids Systems Design Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the development of launch infrastructure for New Glenn, our reusable, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle. You will design, analyze, and test the critical fluid systems that are essential to the vehicle and its ground support infrastructure—from high-pressure pneumatics and propellant systems to deluge water and environmental control systems. This role is for a hands-on engineer with a strong foundation in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics. You will apply your technical expertise to solve challenging problems and deliver robust hardware designs. Your dedicated commitment and detailed attention to your work will directly contribute to building a road to space.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in fluid or mechanical system design and analysis.
  • Experience creating and interpreting Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Proficiency using industry-standard analysis tools for fluid network modeling (e.g., AFT Fathom/Arrow, GFSSP) or thermal analysis (e.g., Sinda/Fluint, Thermal Desktop).
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (Creo/SolidWorks or similar) and configuration management.
  • Knowledge of fluid system components, including valves, regulators, pumps, and fittings.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Hands-on experience with the assembly, troubleshooting, or testing of mechanical and fluid hardware.
  • Experience with cryogenic fluids, high-pressure gas systems, or aerospace hydraulic systems.
  • Working knowledge of process piping codes and standards, such as ASME B31.3.
  • Experience with test instrumentation and data acquisition.
  • Knowledge of precision cleaning specifications and material compatibility.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop fluid systems from initial concept and requirements through detailed design, analysis, and release.
  • Perform detailed fluid and thermal analyses to validate system performance and inform design decisions.
  • Create and release engineering artifacts, including system schematics, P&IDs, 3D models, component specifications, and test procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure successful system integration and functionality.
  • Support the planning and execution of system-level tests, analyzing data to verify performance against requirements.
  • Participate in and provide technical input for design reviews and Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) to ensure system safety and reliability.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Stock Options for all regular employees (working at least 20 hours/week)
  • Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
