About The Position

The Grounds Supervisor is responsible for the effective management of all landscaping and grounds maintenance activities. This role requires expertise in irrigation systems, pest control for turf and ornamentals, and disease identification in plants. The supervisor will also handle material ordering, scheduling, and at times perform hands-on tasks alongside the team. A key aspect of this role includes testing irrigation systems and conducting yearly evaluations for staff. The successful candidate will be required to obtain an LLO pesticide license within the first 90 days of employment.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years in grounds maintenance or landscaping
At least 3 years in a supervisory role
Must possess and maintain a valid, US driver’s license.
Candidates will be expected to obtain a Limited Lawn and Ornamental Pesticide License (LLO) by the State of Florida within the first 90 days of employment.
Comprehensive understanding of landscaping practices, turf management, and ornamental horticulture.
Proficient in irrigation systems design, maintenance, and testing.
Familiarity with pest control methods and plant disease identification.
Strong leadership and team management abilities.
Excellent organizational and scheduling skills.
Proficient in computer applications for scheduling, record keeping, and inventory management.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to high-quality standards.

Nice To Haves

Degree in horticulture, landscape management, or related field preferred.
Relevant certifications in pesticide application and irrigation management preferred.

Responsibilities

Supervise and mentor grounds maintenance staff, providing guidance and support to enhance skills and efficiency.
Conduct annual performance evaluations for team members, identifying areas for improvement and professional development.
Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of landscaped areas, ensuring adherence to quality and design specifications.
Participate in hands-on maintenance tasks when necessary to demonstrate best practices.
Design, install, and maintain irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water usage and optimal plant health.
Regularly test and evaluate irrigation systems for functionality and efficiency.
Identify pests and diseases affecting turf and ornamental plants, implementing integrated pest management strategies.
Develop treatment plans for pest control and disease management in compliance with regulations.
Order necessary landscape supplies, including plants, herbicides, fertilizers, and equipment.
Manage inventory levels to ensure all required materials are available for maintenance tasks.
Create and manage work schedules for grounds maintenance staff to ensure timely completion of tasks.
Prioritize and assign daily activities based on project needs and environmental conditions.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, pest control applications, and inventory management.
Prepare reports on grounds maintenance operations for management review.
Ensure all operations comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
Conduct safety training sessions and promote a culture of safety among team members.
Obtain an LLO pesticide license within the first 90 days of employment, ensuring compliance with state and local regulations.
