About The Position

Performs semi-skilled work in area of grounds keeping. This role involves maintaining city-owned structures and facilities, including landscaping, irrigation, and general upkeep.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Related experience or training in landscaping, grounds keeping or mowing
  • Tennessee Drivers’ License
  • Ability to operate vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws
  • Ability to deal courteously with other city employees and the public
  • Ability to coordinate visual and muscular dexterity in the operation of a variety of hand-held tools
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; participates in meetings
  • Ability to write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; able to read and interpret written information
  • Ability to follow instructions, responds to management direction; completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan
  • Ability to meet scheduling and attendance requirements
  • Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear
  • Frequently required to walk
  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must regularly lift and/or move, push or pull up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move, push or pull up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 100 pounds or more with assistance
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision

Responsibilities

  • Mow or edge lawns, using power mowers or edger's
  • Maintains and adjusts sprinkler systems, provides irrigation services, maintains irrigation equipment, and removes graffiti
  • Mow or edge lawns, using power mowers or string trimmers
  • Gather and remove litter
  • Load, or unload materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations according to directions
  • Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws
  • Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes
  • Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls
  • Perform trash and debris removal, cleaning of facilities and restrooms
  • Performs a variety of tasks, including the maintenance and repair of city owned structures and facilities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
