About The Position

The Grounds Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing grounds and rest area maintenance duties in accordance with the established contract schedule, requirements, and standards. This position ensures assigned grounds are clean, safe, well-maintained, and present a professional appearance at all times. The employee will operate a variety of grounds maintenance equipment, perform landscaping and irrigation maintenance, remove debris, and complete routine grounds care activities. The position requires the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and safely operate mowing, trimming, and other grounds maintenance equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in grounds maintenance.
  • Experience with irrigation systems, tractors, mowing equipment, and related grounds maintenance equipment required.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.
  • Perform basic grounds maintenance and landscaping duties.
  • Safely operate lawnmowers, weed eaters, blowers, hedge trimmers, edgers, tractors, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Perform basic irrigation system maintenance and repairs.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Follow contract specifications, schedules, and established quality standards.
  • Identify equipment malfunctions and report problems appropriately.
  • Work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Prioritize tasks and complete assignments within established timeframes.
  • Work safely around equipment, vehicles, pedestrians, and the public.
  • Perform physically demanding outdoor work for extended periods.
  • Work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.
  • Maintain a professional and positive attitude when interacting with coworkers, supervisors, customers, and members of the public.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and maintain a high standard of cleanliness and appearance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform grounds maintenance duties according to contract schedules, requirements, and established quality standards.
  • Mow all improved grounds to maintain a well-manicured appearance using walk-behind and zero-turn riding lawnmowers.
  • Operate weed eaters and other appropriate equipment to trim grass, remove weeds, and maintain weed control.
  • Operate blowers and manually remove trash, leaves, limbs, and other debris to maintain clean, safe, and neat grounds.
  • Trim hedges and shrubs and edge areas around walkways, planters, buildings, and walls using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools.
  • Prune shrubs and trees using appropriate shears, saws, and other approved equipment.
  • Respond to storm-related damage as quickly as available manpower allows, including removal of fallen trees, limbs, debris, and silt deposited by water runoff on improved grounds.
  • Aerate grounds as needed and apply fertilizer in accordance with established requirements and procedures.
  • Monitor grounds maintenance equipment and promptly report malfunctions, damage, safety concerns, or other equipment issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Repair and/or replace Rain Bird valves, sprinkler systems, timers, pipes, fittings, and wiring as required.
  • Dig and maintain irrigation ditches and perform necessary irrigation system repairs.
  • Follow all safety procedures when operating equipment, handling materials, and performing grounds maintenance activities.
  • Maintain work areas, equipment, and assigned grounds in a clean, safe, and professional condition.
  • Adhere to the organization's dress code and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Complete required annual health, safety, and educational training and demonstrate the expected level of competency for each required course.
  • Report to work on time and remain awake, alert, and attentive during work hours and training.
  • Follow established procedures for notifying management of absences or tardiness.
  • Attend mandatory trainings, staff meetings, and other required meetings.
  • Represent Tresco in a positive and professional manner by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Comply with all organizational policies, procedures, and ethical business practices.
  • Support and communicate Tresco's mission, values, ethics, and organizational goals.
  • Maintain all required licenses and certifications applicable to the position.
  • Consistently follow departmental and company Health, Safety, Security, and Hazardous Materials policies and procedures, including applicable OSHA and SDS requirements, HIPAA requirements, and Workers' Compensation procedures.
  • Demonstrate respect for diversity, including differences in culture, ethnicity, ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives, and work effectively with individuals from diverse communities.
  • Carry the company-issued work phone while on duty and respond to work-related phone calls, text messages, and emails in a timely manner.
  • Operate a company-owned or personal vehicle on behalf of Tresco when required. Company-owned vehicles must be maintained in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Safely operate assigned vehicles and equipment in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Report accidents, injuries, equipment damage, unsafe conditions, or other incidents to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
