About The Position

The Grounds Maintenance Worker cultivates and maintains clean, safe, and visually appealing outdoor spaces across district campuses and offices. The role helps ensure that school grounds, athletic fields, playgrounds, and walkways are properly maintained to provide a secure and welcoming environment for students, staff, and the community.

Responsibilities include landscaping and campus upkeep, athletic-field preparation and maintenance, debris removal and winter walkway clearing, irrigation management, operation and basic maintenance of groundskeeping equipment, and minor repairs to outdoor features. The worker may also assist the facilities team with heavy lifting or event setup.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or a related field.
• Ability to safely operate and perform basic maintenance on motorized grounds equipment.
• Physical ability to perform heavy labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods in various weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Must pass a comprehensive background check and fingerprinting for school district employment.
• Must obtain a Class B CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Cut, trim, edge, and prune landscaped areas, shrubs, and trees across school grounds.
• Plant flowers and apply mulch or topsoil as needed to maintain campus appearance.
• Maintain and prepare athletic fields for practices and games, including mowing, aerating, overseeding, and lining fields.
• Rake, sweep, and remove trash, leaves, and debris from lawns, walkways, parking lots, and playgrounds.
• Clear walkways of snow and ice during winter months to ensure safe passage.
• Water lawns, shrubs, and new grass; check, adjust, and repair sprinkler heads, valves, and irrigation pipes.
• Operate push and riding mowers, tractors, blowers, chainsaws, and trimmers.
• Clean groundskeeping equipment and hand tools and perform minor preventative maintenance.
• Inspect and perform minor repairs on outdoor hardscapes and features, including fences, playground equipment, signs, and benches.
• Assist the broader facilities team with heavy lifting or event setup as needed.
