About The Position

Join Our Parks Division as a Ground Maintenance Worker! Do you take pride in keeping parks and public spaces safe, clean, and beautiful for the community? Our Parks Division is looking for a dedicated Ground Maintenance Worker to join our team! This position performs skilled labor within the Parks & Recreation Department, including the repair and maintenance of parks and facilities that help create enjoyable experiences for our residents and visitors. Requirements

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented six (6) months of experience ; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and toപ് multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains trees and plant life; trims plants and hedges; weeds plant beds; grinds stumps; prunes bushes; cuts and trims trees.
  • Sprays herbicides and pesticides; plants trees, bushes, and flowers.
  • Operates the riding mower, and smaller mowers, saws, edger, weed eater, blower and smaller power tools
  • Removes weeds and debris from working areas, public lands, and other areas.
  • Performs regular and routine maintenance, cleaning, repairing and servicing of equipment; reports major equipment problems to the assigned supervisor, and delivers equipment for repair.
  • Works on a call-out basis in response to emergencies such as special events, natural disasters, leaks, equipment failures, and other urgency calls.
  • Answers citizen and agency representative inquires; refers more complex questions to the assigned supervisor.
  • Occasionally installs and repairs irrigation systems.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
