About The Position

A Grounds Maintenance Supervisor ensures the maintenance of public building exteriors and grounds. Work of this class involves supervising laboring and grounds maintenance personnel. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek, but may be on callback duty in emergencies. Work is performed outdoors where incumbents may be exposed to inclement weather conditions. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
Five years of experience in grounds maintenance work including one year of such lead responsibilities as assigning, reviewing and approving the work of others.
Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession of a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
Knowledge of the tools, materials, equipment and techniques used in grounds maintenance work.
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
Knowledge of plants, shrubs, trees, diseases, pesticides and soil conditioners.
Supervisory ability.
Ability to utilize limited resources efficiently.
Ability to maintain records and write routine reports.
Ability interpret City personnel policies and procedures.
