About The Position

Perform grounds maintenance activities, including grass cutting, edging, trimming and pruning, and limited landscaping. The position supports Goodwill San Antonio’s mission to help change lives through the power of work. The employee must follow applicable safety requirements, use equipment according to manufacturer instructions, and provide friendly, professional customer service.

Requirements

• Current, valid driver's license.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
• For positions requiring driving, maintain a valid driver's license and automobile insurance coverage and be able to travel as needed when using a personal vehicle for company business.
• Reading and comprehension skills.
• Ability to analyze and evaluate situations and develop alternatives for conflict resolution.
• Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance tools and equipment, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or military training.

Nice To Haves

• At least 6 months of experience performing similar work.
• Basic knowledge of and skill in using various landscaping hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Cut grass to specified requirements using a push mower.
• Remove grass clippings, trash, and debris from work sites and dispose of trash at the collection point.
• Use a grass or weed trimmer in areas inaccessible to riding or push mowers, including slopes, canals, ditches, rough terrain, ramps, and drop-offs; clean ramp areas when required.
• Operate a backpack blower to clear surfaced areas.
• Trim hedges and shrubs and edge sidewalks, curbs, parking lots, and other surfaced areas.
• Remove vines from fences and keep fence lines clear of new growth.
• Clean tools, work areas, and vehicles; perform basic equipment service maintenance according to manufacturer directions and inspect equipment to ensure safe use.
• Follow federal, state, and agency safety requirements; wear safety equipment; use equipment according to manufacturer directions; and exercise caution when changing directions on slopes.
• Greet and assist customers and respond to questions or concerns in a positive, professional, and friendly manner.
