About The Position

Under the direction of the Grounds Manager and/or his/her designee, the Grounds Laborer will be responsible for the maintenance of the college’s landscape. The Grounds Laborer will work closely with the facilities staff to effectively meet the physical needs of the college and support its overall mission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Able to work well and communicate with others.
  • Able to use equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Fluent in English language and able to communicate with others.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • A pesticide license is required.
  • A Class 2A Hoisting license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred
  • Higher Education, or multi-building property management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the appearance, care, and overall condition of all campus grounds, gardens, athletic fields, walkways, parking lots, and roadways.
  • Perform turf management practices, including fertilization, irrigation, aeration, overseeding, and other cultural maintenance activities.
  • Plant, maintain, and care for seasonal flowers and ornamental plantings in campus flower beds and decorative containers.
  • Perform seasonal leaf removal and cleanup during the spring and fall to maintain a clean and safe campus environment.
  • Mow, trim, and edge lawns and landscaped areas using appropriate grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Perform snow and ice removal operations, including plowing, shoveling, and applying deicing materials, to ensure safe conditions on campus roads, parking lots, and walkways during inclement weather.
  • Inspect, clean, maintain, and safely operate grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Assist with the collection, disposal, and recycling of campus waste in accordance with institutional procedures.
  • Assist with the transportation, setup, and breakdown of furniture, equipment, and other materials for campus events and activities.
  • Participate in the department's on-call rotation by responding to and resolving after-hours emergencies and grounds-related issues during inclement weather to ensure a safe and accessible campus environment.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and institutional operations.
