About The Position

South Alabama Electric Cooperative is seeking a Groundman. This position is responsible for assisting linemen from the ground during construction and maintenance. Duties will include loading poles, digging holes, framing, and setting poles. The groundman will operate the bucket truck, as directed, pull ground wires, and pull guy wires. At times, the groundman will climb poles under direct supervision, pass lineman requested materials using a handline, and perform any other duties as directed. The groundman will ensure that trucks, tools, and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained. Maintaining right of ways is an important role, and the groundman must be proficient using tools such as a chain saw, pruners, and tree saw. Safety is always first as SAEC, and the groundman must follow all safety procedures, participate in safety "tailgate" discussions, and must be able to administer CPR and first aid as needed. The groundman will also be part of the on-call duty rotation and will assist in the restoring of lines after storms or other outages.

Requirements

• High school diploma or its equivalent
• Class A Commercial Driver's License
• Must follow all safety procedures
• Must be able to administer CPR and first aid as needed
• Employment is subject to a negative drug test, background check and completion of a comprehensive application for employment

• Completion of a pre-apprentice electrical lineman school
