About The Position

The Groundman is an entry point to a career in construction and maintenance of the nation’s power grid. This role assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems. The Groundman reports to the Foreman and performs rigorous physical labor, including work outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. The role may involve travel, out-of-state assignments, outage and emergency work, an on-call rotation, and work outside normal business hours.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license.
Able to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL) within 60 days.
Willing to travel long distances on short notice.
Able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Able to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing, walking, handling objects, operating tools or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
Able to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Follow safety protocols, including proper PPE use and understanding insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE), and understand when PPE must be worn.
Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storm conditions.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and an on-call rotation.
