About The Position

The Boeing Company, Space & Mission Systems MILSATCOM Program, is seeking a Senior Ground Systems Engineer (Level 5 or 6) to provide leadership and guidance in the development of our nation’s next generation of satellite ground mission planning systems in Seal Beach, CA. This position offers the opportunity to provide overall direction for major sections of our ground system software development staff and programs, leading the development of cutting-edge technology in an agile environment. The role involves advanced skills in systems engineering, including mentoring and hands-on development, analysis of system and subsystem requirements, interface design, ground systems architecture and design, system integration, system test, system verification, and demonstration to ensure customer requirements are met. The applicant will also be trained in Boeing and Ground processes and procedures. Key interest and skill areas include ground system engineering, software integration and test, and formal qualification. The candidate should possess excellent communication skills for requirements and architecture reviews, a thorough understanding of version control and system quality attributes (testability, portability, maintainability), and a self-driven, collaborative development approach. The candidate will interact well with System Engineers/Analysts/Software developers and other members of the Integrated Product Team, and lead the technical content of all system technical documents. As part of the MILSATCOM Mission Planning Development Team, the role involves working with supplier/contractor software, system engineering, and test teams on requirement generation and verification, and supporting the customer’s delivered system. The team will collaborate closely with the customer on requirement generation, develop the ground mission planning system, and then develop, execute, and document test plans, procedures, and reports for the ground system and its components. Requirements

  • This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 14+ years of engineering experience
  • Must be willing to travel domestically as needed
  • Successful candidate for this job must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
  • This position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice To Haves

  • Principal, Level 6: 20+ years of engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience with Agile and Model Based Engineering processes
  • Experience in the complete systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Possess basic orbital dynamics.
  • RF communications, satellite links, transponder loading, and military communication architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify complex system solutions.
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.
  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Develops, maintains and identifies improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.
  • Supports government and interface working groups.
  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues.
