Ground Architecture Systems Engineer

Arcfield•Chantilly, VA

About The Position

Arcfield is seeking an experienced Ground Architecture Systems Engineer to support the Chief Architecture engineering group in evaluating, guiding, defining, analyzing, and evolving ground enterprise and mission architectures. The role supports the development of current and future remote-sensing systems that enable activity-based intelligence and automated, accelerated mission delivery to Intelligence Community and Department of Defense customers. The team leads and coordinates enterprise lifecycle systems engineering, including requirements, concepts of operations (CONOPS), and architecture development. The successful candidate will apply systems engineering expertise across the full development life cycle, with hands-on experience in model-based systems engineering (MBSE), AI-enabled system integration, and modeling and simulation. The position involves developing architecture products and analyses, supporting integration and verification activities, and communicating technical recommendations to government and industry stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field plus 8–10 years of relevant professional experience; alternatively, a master’s degree plus 6–8 years or a PhD plus 3–5 years.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a TS/SCI with Poly clearance.
  • Experience supporting systems engineering activities across the engineering V-model and full system development life cycle.
  • Hands-on experience using Cameo Systems Modeler to develop and maintain MBSE artifacts.
  • Experience applying SysML and/or UAF to model mission, system, enterprise, or system-of-systems architectures.
  • Experience with requirements development, traceability, interface definition, architecture analysis, and technical baseline management.
  • Experience performing modeling and simulation analysis using MATLAB, STK, AFSIM, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and integration of AI-enabled capabilities within complex mission, intelligence, defense, or enterprise systems.
  • Working knowledge of Agile/SAFe methodologies and collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop and present clear technical recommendations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • INCOSE, Cameo, SysML, UAF, Agile, or other relevant systems engineering certification.
  • Experience supporting a Chief Architect organization, Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA), Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT), or government acquisition organization.
  • Experience with intelligence-community, space, cyber, GEOINT, SIGINT, OPIR, radar, electro-optical, or other mission-critical systems.
  • Experience with cloud architectures, digital engineering ecosystems, data engineering, or AI/ML deployment in secure environments.

Responsibilities

  • Apply systems engineering processes across the full system life cycle, from concept development and requirements definition through architecture development, design, integration, verification, validation, deployment, operations, and sustainment.
  • Develop and maintain MBSE products using Cameo Systems Modeler or Cameo Enterprise Architecture, SysML, and Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) methodologies.
  • Create and analyze operational, functional, logical, physical, interface, and mission architecture views in support of Chief Architect Office priorities.
  • Develop, decompose, allocate, trace, and validate mission, stakeholder, system, and interface requirements.
  • Conduct architecture trade studies, mission-thread analysis, technical risk assessments, and system-of-systems integration assessments.
  • Evaluate and support integration of AI/ML-enabled capabilities into mission and enterprise systems, addressing data dependencies, interface requirements, performance measures, validation approaches, and operational risks.
  • Perform modeling, simulation, and quantitative analysis using MATLAB, STK, AFSIM, or comparable tools to assess system performance, mission effectiveness, and architecture alternatives.
  • Support integration, test, verification, validation, technical baseline management, and configuration-control activities.
  • Prepare technical briefings, white papers, decision packages, architecture products, and engineering reports for government and industry stakeholders.
  • Participate in technical interchange meetings, architecture reviews, requirements reviews, and Agile planning activities.
