About The Position

The Grossing Technician is responsible for supporting the Pathology Department by ensuring quality control, maintaining compliance with documentation standards, and promoting patient safety. The Grossing Technician is also responsible for equipment and supply upkeep, fostering positive interdepartmental relationships, and demonstrating flexibility and teamwork as a member of the USDH staff.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions.
  • Computer skills and average typing speed.
  • Warm and friendly demeanor.
  • An earned associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution, OR at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer.

Responsibilities

  • Performs quality control for Pathology Department.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Maintaining Pathology Laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Maintaining a good working relationship within the Pathology department, as well as with other departments.
  • Making every effort to remain a flexible cooperative and supportive member of the USDH staff.
  • Accurately enters all required information presented on USDH or client specific requisitions into the laboratory information system.
  • Ensure specimen integrity upon arrival and throughout the entire process.
  • Determine a gross description for each biopsy specimen.
  • Dissect tissue specimens and place into cassettes.
  • Load prepared cassettes in Tissue Processors.
  • Operation of all tissue processors.
  • Familiar with safety procedures and standard operating procedures.
  • Compliance with all Federal and State regulations pertaining to Grossing.
  • Adhere to workload requirements.
  • Maintenance of accurate work records (i.e. Maintenance, Logs, Filter Logs, Bench Excerpts, etc.).
  • Able to evaluate new laboratory equipment and procedures.
