About The Position

Integrates knowledge, theory and practice to properly execute procedures in assigned areas of pathology. Maintains competence in all routine practices (e.g. specimen handling and preparation, tissue gross examination within limits defined by department procedures, and specimen storage/retrieval/disposal); routine maintenance; and basic troubleshooting. Duties may include receiving, preparing, archiving and/or retrieving specimens/material; preparing and or stocking department supplies and reagents; performing quality assurance tasks; and assisting with post-mortem examinations.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university that includes the following: 24 semester hours of science related courses to include 6 semester hours of biology, 6 semester hours of chemistry, and 12 semester hours of other science courses in combination.
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge and technical competence in specimen collection and preparation, laboratory operations, and quality assurance.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected time-frames.
  • Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and problem solving relevant to assigned duties.
  • Ability to compassionately and effectively interact individuals and groups of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors.
  • Ability to appropriately respond to fluctuations in volume, unexpected situations or problems such as equipment or information system failures, shift-to-shift hand-offs, priority test orders, and specimen integrity issues.
  • Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence.
  • Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients.
