About The Position

Utilizes training and knowledge to accurately process specimens and ensure that all support systems are operated according to established procedures. The Gross Counter Technician is responsible for recognizing the irretrievability of each sample submitted and processing each specimen with respect. This role provides pathology staff with information on each case, including size, color, weight, dimensions, count, labeling of cassettes, appropriate comments, and techniques employed in the cut. The technician works within the guidelines set forth within the gross department manual, notifies the department supervisor of any situations beyond their scope, and is responsible for accurate data entry. The position requires the ability to prioritize and adapt to changing demands, maintain focus, and consistently deliver quality work within tight timeframes. Accuracy, productivity, adherence to protocols, reliability, dependability, and excellent attendance are essential. The technician must be a team player and assist in other areas of the lab as directed. They also participate in special projects and/or assignments as requested by Manager/Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science
  • Prolonged sitting
  • Repetitive hand, wrist and shoulder motion
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs. occasionally
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to do detailed multi-tasks.
  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with others.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment.
