About The Position

Utilizes training and knowledge to accurately process specimens and ensure that all support systems are operated according to established procedures. The Gross Counter Technician recognizes the irretrievability of each sample submitted and processes each specimen with respect. They are responsible for providing pathology staff with specific information on each case, including size, color, weight, dimensions, count, labeling of cassettes, appropriate comments, and techniques employed in the cut. This role requires working within the guidelines set forth in the gross department manual, notifying the supervisor of any situations beyond the individual's scope, and maintaining accurate data entry skills. The technician must be able to prioritize and adapt to changing demands, maintain focus, and consistently deliver quality work within tight timeframes. Accuracy and productivity are essential, as is adherence to all department protocols and procedures. Reliability, dependability, and an excellent attendance history are required. The role also involves assisting in other areas of the lab as directed and participating in special projects or assignments as requested by management.
