About The Position

Utilizes training and knowledge to accurately process specimens and ensure that all support systems are operated according to established procedures. The Gross Counter Technician is responsible for recognizing the irretrievability of each sample submitted and processing each specimen with respect. They provide pathology staff with specific information on each case, including size, color, weight, dimensions, count, labeling of cassettes, appropriate comments, and techniques employed in the cut. The technician works within the guidelines of the gross department manual, notifies the supervisor of any situations beyond their expertise, and is responsible for accurate data entry. They must be able to prioritize, adapt to changing demands, maintain focus, deliver quality work within tight timeframes, and be accurate and productive. Adherence to all department protocols and procedures, reliability, dependability, and an excellent attendance history are essential. The role also involves being a team player, assisting in other areas of the lab as directed, and participating in special projects as requested by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science
  • Ability to provide the pathology staff with the following information on each case: size, color, weight, dimensions, count, labeling of cassettes into which the specimens are placed, appropriate comments, and techniques employed in the cut
  • Works within the guidelines set forth within the gross department manual.
  • Responsible for accurate data entry skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and adapt to changing demands.
  • Maintain focus and consistently deliver quality work within tight timeframes.
  • Must be accurate and productive.
  • Must adhere to all department protocols and procedures.
  • Must be reliable, dependable and have an excellent attendance history.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to do detailed multi-tasks.

  • Working knowledge of office equipment.
