About The Position

Grade 1 Grooming Operators work as part of the Mountain Operations team. They are considered entry-level snowcat operators and are responsible for safe and efficient operation of a Prinoth snowcat to help maintain the slopes under the direction of the Grooming & Snowmaking Supervisor and/or Assistant Grooming Supervisor(s). Grade 1 Grooming Operator candidates will receive internal training (both online and experiential) and will receive on-the-job training from mentors within the department. The incumbent should expect to be working outside in any, all and sometimes adverse weather conditions and must be available to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays when required. This is a full-time seasonal role, 4 afternoons/evenings out of 7 per week from October through to May each operating season. Please note that you may not receive full-time hours at the beginning/end of the season and during other slow periods. Alberta Employment Standards regarding a ninety-day probationary period applies.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Experience operating Prinoth snowcats (or other similar heavy machinery)
  • Mechanical aptitude (a background in mechanical experience preferred)
  • Must possess an enthusiastic and positive attitude
  • Enjoy working outdoors in the winter
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Alberta Intermediate First Aid (IFA) certificate (or better, or equivalent)
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or better) in good standing

  • Professional deportment with excellent customer service skills: experience dealing with all on-hill patrons
  • Cheerful, outgoing personality; demonstrated temperament and disposition for sometimes highly stressful situations

  • Self-aware; able to identify strengths and gaps in own abilities and training
  • Able to use taught skills and previous experience to problem solve
  • Ski Industry experience (an asset)
  • Physically fit
  • Mechanical background (an asset)
  • Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised

Responsibilities

  • Help manage the quality of our groomed runs by operating Prinoth snowcats.
  • Attend and complete all introductory training in a timely manner.
  • Report for scheduled shifts.
  • Work in a safe efficient manner; point out any safety concerns that would put any employee or guest in an unsafe situation
  • Any additional duties as assigned
  • Adherence to the company’s practices and procedures as set in the ‘Grooming Training Manual’
  • All Marmot Basin employees will conduct themselves in compliance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation as it relates to their job
