About The Position

Kragness Animal Hospital, a Chicago mainstay for over 110 years, is seeking a Groomer to join their team. The Groomer is responsible for maintaining the coat condition of patients by providing bathing, brushing, nail trimming, and teeth brushing services. This role involves understanding client expectations and patient needs, ensuring the grooming space is clean and safe, and reporting any signs of illness or distress observed in patients to veterinary staff. The Groomer will also educate clients on products and ensure client satisfaction with grooming services.

Requirements

  • Ability to work on weekends as required.
  • Experience grooming / caring for animals.
  • Ability to lift patients up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to lift patients over 25 pounds with assistance.
  • Practices OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous veterinary experience preferred.
  • Client satisfaction references preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Admit patients, noting client instructions, contact information, and pick-up times.
  • Determine any veterinary services required during the client's visit.
  • Assess patient care needs based on individual circumstances.
  • Observe patient appearance and activity for signs of illness or disease.
  • Check for ticks, fleas, skin issues, and lumps, reporting any abnormalities to veterinary staff.
  • Handle and restrain patients appropriately, including difficult ones.
  • Perform bathing services, including shampooing and drying.
  • Perform grooming services, including brushing, clipping, hand scissoring, trimming, and shaping coats.
  • Stay updated on new grooming techniques and trends.
  • Administer medication (when instructed), perform general cleansing, parasite control baths, pedicures, medicated dips (when instructed), and ear cleansing.
  • Apply technical knowledge of products and medications, including dietary products.
  • Educate clients on products and answer questions.
  • Perform work according to established methods and special instructions.
  • Maintain cleanliness and disinfection of grooming rooms and yards.
  • Clean and disinfect cages, tubs, grooming tables, and yards daily.
  • Vacuum and mop floors, empty trash, and clean grooming tools after use.
  • Perform monthly maintenance on dryers and clippers.
  • Deliver groomed patients to clients and ensure satisfaction.
  • Address client concerns appropriately.
  • Train, supervise, and assist the Grooming Assistant (where applicable).
  • Set performance standards and monitor performance for the Grooming Assistant.
  • Conduct timely performance evaluations for the Grooming Assistant.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
