This is a union position and bonus eligible. The Grocery Manager exemplifies strong customer service in every aspect of the job. This role directs and controls the operation of the Grocery Department, including supervising and training personnel to achieve departmental and store sales and profit objectives. The manager provides feedback and recommendations on operational issues and personnel decisions to the Store Director and Division management. The primary duty is management of the Grocery Department, including dairy and frozen food sections. This includes planning, organizing, and directing day-to-day operations, conducting daily inspections, ensuring compliance with product quality, rotation, cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards, and security requirements. The manager controls pricing according to established guidelines and ensures compliance with coupon and discount policies. They implement Company and Division operating and merchandising policies, control merchandise shrink, and supervise inventory counts. They establish department operating procedures and implement emergency procedures for equipment and software malfunctions. The manager orders grocery products, maintains inventory levels, supervises reclamation processing, and ensures orderly stock conditions in back rooms and sales floors. They supervise receiving, storing, stocking, pricing, and merchandising of all Grocery products, potentially utilizing hand trucks, pallet jacks, and a bailer. They ensure proper accounting for merchandise received and handle positive customer and vendor relations, engaging in suggestive selling. They monitor daily logs, purchase reports, and sales and labor projections. The manager prepares and displays appropriate product signage. Under the Store Director's supervision, they direct the work of all Grocery Department associates, scheduling them for adequate coverage and service levels. They direct, motivate, train, and participate in hiring for the department, ensuring associates are knowledgeable about duties, policies, and procedures. They monitor associate performance, recommend personnel actions, build associate morale, and resolve complaints. They immediately report potential serious policy violations to the Store Director and assist in handling them. They identify and train associates with high potential for advancement. The manager understands the store and department Profit and Loss statement, plans department promotions accordingly, and communicates sales goals and performance to associates. They answer incoming telephone calls appropriately, receive and resolve customer complaints, and maintain confidentiality of associate, sales, and company information. They maintain accurate department records and perform all job duties with honesty and integrity. They attend required training and sales meetings and provide feedback to management on operational issues.
