About The Position

The Grocery Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Grocery Department to achieve sales, productivity, inventory, and customer service goals. This role leads department associates, ensures operational and merchandising excellence, controls costs, and delivers a high-quality shopping experience while complying with company policies and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, coach, and develop grocery associates to achieve performance and service expectations.
  • Schedule labor effectively to meet operational needs while controlling department labor costs.
  • Maintain accountability for attendance, productivity, safety, and policy compliance.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management for department associates.
  • Oversee daily grocery operations, including ordering, receiving, stocking, rotation, and back-room organization.
  • Ensure all merchandising standards, planograms, promotions, and pricing are executed accurately.
  • Maintain proper product rotation, freshness standards, and inventory control procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Manage inventory levels to meet sales demand while minimizing shrink, spoilage, and out-of-stocks.
  • Monitor sales, margins, and key department metrics; develop action plans to improve performance.
  • Control supplies, expenses, and labor to achieve departmental financial goals.
  • Identify opportunities to improve sales, reduce waste, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and well-stocked department that meets customer expectations.
  • Address customer concerns promptly and professionally to ensure satisfaction and resolution.
  • Model excellent customer service and reinforce service standards with associates.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, union agreements (where applicable), and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Store Leadership and other department managers to support overall store goals.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors, store leadership, and associates.
