Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • At least one year experience in the Grocery Department required.
  • Love food and be able to create an experience that is beyond the everyday.

  • In addition to performing all required duties of a Grocery clerk, the Grocery Manager will take full responsibility for the operation of the Grocery Department.

Responsibilities

  • Take full responsibility for the operation of the Grocery Department, including operations, planning, directing, managing, and achieving targeted profits.
  • Directly responsible for staff development and cultivating a solid working relationship with staff, fostering positive morale.
  • Cultivate a working relationship with other department managers for effective cross-merchandising.
  • Lead by example, modeling correct behavior and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Prepare daily schedules and direct activities of grocery department employees.
  • Assure in-service training for all employees and document all training.
  • Train all opening and closing procedures for the department.
  • Maintain high profit margins according to the approved pre-set budget, including sales goals, cost of goods, expenses, price changes, and waste management (shrink).
  • Assure high quality and proper quantity through accurate ordering and receiving.
  • Assure all items in the dairy box are well within their expiration date.
  • Rotate stock to assure high quality, fresh merchandise at all times.
  • Fill customer orders by obtaining items from shelves, freezers, coolers, bins, tables, or containers.
  • Operate a cash register following established policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the accurate recording of customer transactions, including payment acceptance.
  • Responsible for accurate balancing of the cash register.
  • Package and handle customers’ groceries according to their preference.
  • Offer and assist customers with carry-out service.
  • Collect shopping carts from inside the store, parking lot, and other areas as needed.
  • Manage and assure proper displays in store entrance & end caps according to merchandising standards.
  • Set up displays and stock shelves, coolers, counter bins, tables, freezers, containers, or trays with merchandise.
  • Maintain and clean shelves, bins, tables, and coolers.
  • Accurately price all merchandise by stamping, marking, or placing shelf tags/signs.
  • Assure daily price changes are done accurately and completed before the store opens, maintaining price integrity.
  • Monitor pull dates on all Grocery merchandise.
  • Examine products bought for resale or received for storage.
  • Ensure all staff members practice the same techniques and standards.
  • Handle all customer complaints in a manner that assures repeat business.
  • Serve customers with a smile and willing attitude, establishing relationships to ensure repeat business.
  • Document all meetings & Safety memos and obtain employee signatures as required.
  • Assure all staff members receive required monthly Safety News and other communications.
  • Follow safety work standards and report any safety hazards to the Store Director.
  • Conduct accident investigations and fill out paperwork in accordance with Cal Osha SB 198.
  • Maintain a clean & safe work area at all times, keeping aisles free of cardboard and overstock merchandise.
  • Arrange for all equipment to be fixed and cleaned (with approval of Store Director).
  • Meet and exceed Bristol Farms standards in food, service, quality, and cleanliness at all times.
  • Follow the employee handbook at all times, especially regarding service standards and appearance.
  • Manage employees in the department, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Provide extraordinary customer service that exceeds expectations.
  • Go above and beyond in attitude, respect, and flexibility.
  • Have a positive “can-do” attitude, treat others with respect, and adjust easily to changes.
