About The Position

The Grocery Dept Manager is responsible for overall team member engagement, including recognition, feedback, coaching, performance management, training, development, and succession planning. This role directly manages Leads and Team Leaders, and is accountable for area operations and financials such as shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling, staffing, and conflict resolution. The Grocery Dept Manager will also focus on identifying and implementing process improvements and upholding the Meijer culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 4+ years of retail/grocery or customer service experience.
  • Progressive leadership experience preferred.
  • A passion to provide industry leading service.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with team members clearly and precisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information to make informed decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times.
  • Demonstrates proactive/creative thinking and applies it to the business.
  • A thorough understanding of seasonal and diverse merchandising to meet customer needs and gain sales/market share.
  • A strong business acumen.

Responsibilities

  • Engages with team members to ensure they receive appropriate onboarding, training, development, and coaching.
  • Identifies talent and engages in career discussions to support store staffing and leadership development.
  • Conducts discussions with team members to ensure Meijer standards are upheld and to support team member growth.
  • Oversees area operations and financial results, executing corporate plans to maximize sales and productivity, and managing P&L line items.
  • Drives safety and compliance throughout the store, including condition management and adherence to all compliance procedures.
  • Ensures Team Leaders and Leads provide guidance, assign daily work, and address training needs for team members.
