About The Position

Partners with the Grocery Manager to operate the department, encompassing financial stewardship, customer service, department conditions, merchandising, food safety, work safety, communication, and delegation of tasks. Ensures the department provides an exceptional customer shopping experience with the highest level of service and product knowledge. Provides exceptional customer service and contributes to a positive and collaborative work environment. Engages customers in a friendly manner, seeking opportunities to exceed expectations and enhance their experience. Works a schedule informed by business needs, which may change seasonally or due to staffing variations, demonstrating reliable and predictable attendance. Shifts tasks as priorities change based on department and store needs. Demonstrates a solutions-oriented approach to problems and concerns, representing company values. Requirements

  • As a retail grocer, we operate 7 days/week and 365 days/year.
  • Our in-store positions are likely to include evening, weekend, and holiday shifts per the needs of the business.
  • Shared responsibility for freight crew, which may require working overnight or early mornings.
  • Must complete and maintain any required food and work safety trainings/certifications.
  • Previous retail experience in a high-volume environment required.
  • Previous ordering/inventory management experience required.
  • Basic to intermediate math and computation skills required.
  • Skills to plan, prioritize and delegate work.
  • Skills to train others.
  • Skills to read, understand and follow through on verbal and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with MS Office with skills to learn new programs and technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Grocery experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with the department manager to operate all areas of the department.
  • Prioritizes and delegates tasks.
  • Ensures consistency of department conditions.
  • Ensures all areas of the department are stocked, rotated, faced, and adhere to merchandising standards and category schematics.
  • Partners with the department manager to ensure satisfactory in-stock conditions in the department.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Orders product according to business needs.
  • Builds, displays, and arranges department products for attractive presentations, in accordance with merchandising standards and category schematics, highlighting featured/unique/seasonal items.
  • Implements plans for weekly ads, events, and holidays.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Ensures customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, count, and condition, communicating any issues to management and the merchandising team.
  • Stocks and rotates products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintains the organization, rotation, and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • Supports the department manager and store leadership in completion of periodic inventory.
  • Demonstrates ability to multi-task and manage own time, adjusting priorities, productivity, efficiency, and speed based on department and store needs.
  • Maintains excellent department conditions, including appearance, cleanliness, signage, staffing, and service levels.
  • Models friendly and attentive customer service and trains/coaches staff to do the same.
  • Handles escalated difficult customer service situations and seeks solutions to delight the customer, training/coaching staff to do the same.
  • Reads and understands merchandising information and implements merchandising plans to promote products, drive sales, and create an optimal customer shopping experience.
  • Demonstrates excellent knowledge of products in the department and general understanding of culinary terminology, product labeling, and common dietary restrictions, sharing product knowledge with customers and staff and making recommendations.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of trends in the industry.
  • Ensures that the department adheres to company invoice, credit, transfers, and inventory procedures.
  • Coaches the department to maintain appropriate, accurate, and organized inventory and back stock.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Demonstrates creativity in merchandising and utilization of products to increase sales and minimize waste, in accordance with merchandising standards and category schematics.
  • Prioritizes department work to maximize efficiency without compromising quality and service standards.
  • Supports effective communication systems within the department and store.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
