About The Position

The Grinding, Setup and Operate position is responsible for running the centerless grinders requiring the planning of duties to perform rough and form grind operations on a variety of similar parts of various materials to meet quality and quantity standards. This role involves working from schedules, prints, specifications and general instructions of the department supervisor. The position requires maintaining close tolerances for size and concentricity, testing equipment after set-up to determine conformity to quality and quantity standards, and making necessary adjustments. The operator will perform all quality checks as defined in the inspection standard, move and handle materials to provide for continuous operation, and load parts in automatic feed mechanisms with minor adjustments. They will also diagnose and remedy ordinary production problems, provide for minor maintenance of equipment, tooling and accessories, and use various hand tools. Additionally, the role involves oiling parts as necessary, weighing, counting, and disposing of them as required, recording production, time, and other data, and removing sludge from the magnetic separator as required. The operator is responsible for maintaining production schedules, quality control records, chain assembly records, shipping charge numbers, preventive maintenance plans, and the Kan-Ban tool control system for all tools in the department, referring any unusual problems to the departmental supervisor. Preventive maintenance schedules need to be completed timely and accurately each day, week, and month, and it is essential to keep the equipment running properly. The operator must maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow standard safety regulations. They should detect faulty operation or defective material and report these and other unusual conditions to their superior. A good shift to shift transition is essential, communicating equipment issues, parts status, and other issues to the incoming operator.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
0-3 Years of experience running multiple machines and performing preventative maintenance.

Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Ability to use material handling devices such as hand trucks and hydraulic lift trucks.

Responsibilities

Run centerless grinders, performing rough and form grind operations on various parts and materials.
Plan duties to meet quality and quantity standards.
Work from schedules, prints, specifications, and general instructions.
Determine operating sequence and select and mount wheels in the machine.
Set speeds and feeds as prescribed for material type and finish requirements.
Dress and true up wheels as required.
Maintain close tolerances for size and concentricity.
Test equipment after set-up to ensure conformity to quality and quantity standards.
Make necessary adjustments to machinery.
Perform all quality checks as defined in the inspection standard.
Move and handle materials to ensure continuous operation.
Load parts in automatic feed mechanisms and make minor adjustments.
Diagnose and remedy ordinary production problems.
Perform minor maintenance of equipment, tooling, and accessories.
Use various hand tools.
Oil parts as necessary; weigh, count, and dispose of as required.
Record production, time, and other data.
Remove sludge from magnetic separator as required.
Maintain production schedules, quality control records, chain assembly records, shipping charge numbers, and preventive maintenance plans.
Manage the Kan-Ban tool control system for all tools in the department.
Complete preventive maintenance schedules timely and accurately.
Keep equipment running properly.
Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
Follow standard safety regulations.
Detect faulty operation or defective material and report unusual conditions to superior.
Perform other similar and associated duties as required or directed.
