About The Position

This position involves setting up and operating grinding and related tools to remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or to buff, hone, or polish metal pieces. The role requires proficiency in grinding sheet metal and examining work pieces for defects. The operator will move grinders over the surface of work pieces to remove scratches and imperfections, and polish ground areas to produce a smooth, unmarred surface. This is a 2nd shift position, working from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM in Clarence, New York.

Requirements

• Possesses basic technical knowledge of grinding tools and their safe operation.
• Able to follow directions precisely and perform repetitive tasks.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 1 – 2 years manufacturing experience.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Requires the use of safety glasses and steel toed shoes/boots.
• Must be able to work safely in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be able to work overtime, including weekends as requested.

Responsibilities

• Operate all tools for grinding, deburring, sanding and polishing while being proficient in grinding sheet metal.
• Examine and feel the surface of work pieces for defects.
• Move grinder over the surface of work piece to remove scratches and imperfections.
• Polish ground areas with finer abrasive to produce a smooth, unmarred surface.
• Replace worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts.
• Select grade of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications.
• Assist in other production areas as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures.
