The Role Under the direction of Plant Manager, the Grinder Operator is responsible for operating a cylindrical grinder in grinding and regrinding outside diameters of knives, RSR, slitters, spacers, exposed faces, and other hardened and not hardened tool steel, alloy steel, carbon steel, and non-ferrous parts to required sizes and finishes, holding specified tolerances

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • As required to individually perform Key Result items.

Responsibilities

  • Review the V403 shop order, as this will provide the customer and details about the regrind part within the description comments.
  • Observe proper safety precautions when handling each part and perform daily jib crane inspections.
  • Adhere to the daily production schedule and track the production process.
  • Determine the required size, finish, tolerances, etc., for the part to be ground.
  • Prepare a grinder to obtain the required part by setting up the proper chucks, jigs, fixtures, grinding wheels, etc.
  • Place the part on the grinder.
  • Operate the grinder to obtain the required size, shape, finish, tolerances, etc.
  • Document start and finish dimensions, along with time, on the shop order.
  • Dress the grinding wheel as required.
  • Take necessary periodic measurements to determine the progress of work.
  • Remove and clean the part when the required size, shape, finish, and tolerances have been obtained.
  • Clean the machine and work area as required.
  • Lubricate the machine as required.
  • Assist in repairs to the machine as required.
  • Keep the working area clean and orderly.
