About The Position

Magnetic Component Engineering (“MCE”), a subsidiary of Dexter Magnetic Technologies (“Dexter”), manufactures permanent magnets and magnetic assemblies made to demanding customer specification in the aerospace / defense, semiconductor equipment, medical, and industrial end markets. MCE is based in Torrance, CA and operates one 48,000 square foot facility with 85 employees. This position has overall responsibility for grinding parts of various alloys to the requirements defined by specifications, work instructions and direction of supervisors. An employee in this position will perform tasks directly related to the machining of both production and prototype parts made of various steels, alloys, engineering plastics, and magnetic materials.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 1 year experience machining prototypes, fixtures and gages
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; use rigorous logic and methods to solve problems producing effective solutions to problem statements.
  • Strong technical skills.
  • Ability to set up and run a variety of machines while holding very tight tolerances with limited direction creating quality parts to spec on short run parts (first part, good part).
  • Strong machine shop math and complex blueprint reading skills, including GD&T.
  • Knowledge and use of a wide variety of precision measuring equipment.
  • Must be able to read, understand and comply with all quality and safety regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade school certification in Machining or Tool and Die preferred.
  • grinding experience is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • The work is job oriented, following detailed blueprints, customer specifications, internal work instructions, and engineering direction both written and verbal.
  • Learn to read and understand basic blueprints
  • Learn to operate grinders, including but not limited to ID/OD grinders, surface grinders, centerless grinders, and other related equipment.
  • Learn basic inspections and document their work using precision measuring equipment and associated gages and tooling.
  • Unload and clean parts from grinders
  • Learn preventative maintenance and housekeeping duties.
  • Assist with special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.
