About The Position

The NASA Glenn Cafe Grill Cook/Line Cook plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, nutritious, and delicious meals to employees and visitors at the NASA Glenn Research Center. This position is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of breakfast and lunch menu items efficiently while maintaining strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards. The role requires collaboration with kitchen staff to ensure smooth operation during meal service periods, including breakfast, lunch, and special events. The Grill Cook/Line Cook will contribute to a positive dining experience by maintaining cleanliness, organization, and timely food preparation. Ultimately, this position supports the overall mission of NASA Glenn by fostering a welcoming and satisfying food service environment that energizes the workforce.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as a grill cook, line cook, or similar food preparation role in a commercial kitchen.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards, including ServSafe certification or equivalent.
  • Ability to work standing for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Must have reliable transportation and successfully complete a government background check to access Nasa Government Facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a high-volume cafeteria or institutional food service environment.
  • Culinary training or certification from an accredited program.
  • Familiarity with menu planning and inventory management.
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, and ovens safely and efficiently.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes and quality standards, including grilling, frying, and assembling dishes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and workstations, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor food inventory and assist with receiving and storing supplies to minimize waste and ensure freshness.
  • Collaborate with kitchen team members to coordinate meal preparation and timely service during peak hours.
  • Adhere to all food safety guidelines, including proper handling, storage, and sanitation procedures.
