About The Position

This is a full-time Greenskeeper position at the MWR Golf Course in Kodiak, AK. The seasonal employment runs from April to October, with leave without pay from November to March. The role involves performing mowing, watering, and basic maintenance of the golf course, including greens, fairways, tees, aprons, and rough areas. Responsibilities also include aerating, fertilizing, applying fungicides and insecticides as directed, and pruning trees and shrubs. The position may require operating heavy equipment and assisting in the pro shop/snack bar. Adherence to safety regulations and standards is crucial, including the use of safety equipment and prompt reporting of workplace hazards or incidents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or Trade School graduate.
  • Experience working outdoors.
  • Experience following oral and written instructions.
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time.
  • Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 45 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in grounds maintenance and accepted methods used in seeding, mowing and replacing grasses used on golf courses.
  • Knowledge of soils, chemicals, equipment used for maintenance and upkeep of golf courses; common grass diseases and pests and environmentally approved methods used for their control and eradication.
  • Certificate of completion of environmental training.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mowing, watering, and basic maintenance of the golf course.
  • Mows greens, rakes traps, waters, cuts fairways, tees, aprons, and rough areas as needed.
  • Aerates, fertilizes, and applies fungicides and insecticides as directed.
  • Prunes trees and shrubs.
  • May be required to operate heavy equipment.
  • May be required to assist in the pro shop/snack bar as necessary.
  • Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures.
  • Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
